Chapter 203 - Character Introductions (Chapter Eight)

Introductions for the new characters appearing in Chapter Eight.

★★★★★★★

・Jeremy

Former officer of the Lancel Kingdom army. Current officer of the Arqvist territory army. In his mid-twenties at the time of appearance.

While conducting reconnaissance within the Bezel Great Forest as a member of King Cadne's expeditionary force, he encountered Radley's patrol and was captured.

Having experienced the loss of his wife and newborn daughter due to the effects of Cadne's tyranny, he became aware of his hatred for Cadne and abandoned the Lancel Kingdom to serve under Noein.

Subsequently, he demonstrated his loyalty to Noein through his work, gained recognition from those around him, and officially became a member of the Arqvist territory army.

He is not particularly strong-willed, but his personality is serious and honest. He is a valuable asset with a certain level of detailed knowledge regarding the northeastern part of the Lancel Kingdom, which borders the territory.

・Marquis Snorri Skeggjason

Minister of Internal Affairs of the Lordberg Kingdom. Currently in his 60s.

The current head of a court noble family known as a prestigious house that produces excellent civil servants. A veteran among veterans who has managed the kingdom's internal affairs since the era of the previous king.

Due to the nature of his duties, he has a tendency to be somewhat conservative and cautious, and thus harbors a slight sense of vigilance toward Noein, who exudes an alien presence even within noble society. On the other hand, as a realist who makes judgments based on numbers, he acknowledged that Noein's territory development plan itself was not problematic.

・Cadne Lancel I

The 3rd King of the Lancel Kingdom. The third son of the previous king, who usurped the throne by assassinating his eldest and second brothers.

Possessing strong territorial ambitions and using military cliques backed by martial nobles as his support, he has boasted steady power while suppressing the opposition.

His strategy of using the southern border as a decoy to create a path through the Bezel Great Forest was evaluated by the Lordberg Kingdom side as "frustrating, but a good move," and his talent as a strategist is recognized by both ally and enemy. Furthermore, possessing the courage to stand on the front lines himself, he is reasonably competent as the king of a military state.

Because he is obsessed with war without regard for the lives of the people or social stability, his reputation among non-military nobles and the populace is desperately low, and he is treated as a tyrant; conversely, he has gathered great support from the military clique nobles.

However, having lost the great war at the southern border two years ago, and with his expedition across the Bezel Great Forest also ending in failure—and having himself become paralyzed in both legs after receiving the undiluted "Angel's Nectar"—he is currently rapidly losing his centripetal force.

・Count Ewald Rotfeld

One of the great nobles who held a central position among the military clique nobles of the Lancel Kingdom.

The head of a prestigious martial family, he himself earned high praise within the Lancel Kingdom as a competent general. While basing his approach on steady troop deployment, he would also issue bold instructions depending on the situation.

Because Cadne believed he himself lacked experience as a tactician, Ewald was entrusted with command on the battlefield, and he served as Cadne's staff officer (the actual commander) during the expedition.

He held high loyalty toward Cadne, who had started the war after uniting the military clique nobles who were dissatisfied with the moderate policies of the previous and the king before that.

Killed in action during the Battle of Bezel.

・Viscount Tajinette

One of those known as a promising young talent among the military clique nobles of the Lancel Kingdom.

A female head of house who inherited the family leadership at a young age, possessing excellent talent in water magic. While there are parts where she lacks experience due to her youth, there is no doubt that she is a talented general, and she is praised as a "heroine" within the country, including propaganda by the military cliques.

Being a generation younger than Count Ewald Rotfeld, and since she has not heard directly from the generation that knew the era of conflict before the founding of the Lancel Kingdom (the generation of her great-grandfather from Tajinette's perspective), her desire for battle is not that strong.

However, she possesses a sense of mission having been born into a martial noble family that protects the king, and she has hardened her resolve to serve Cadne—who officially ascended the throne, albeit as a result of murdering the elder princes—until the end.
